Jimmy Carter is a National Treasure. His Op Ed piece should serve as a wakeup call that we in the United States need to find a more democratic and less partisan way to elect our officials. I firmly believe that this election, no matter the outcome, will be the most heavily contested in the history of our country. It doesn't have to be this way; it is simply that both parties want to work the current system. The bottom line is that we, the voters, end up with a President that we're not sure was really elected By The People.

Still Seeking a Fair Florida Vote (washingtonpost.com) Friday, September 24, 2004Jesse Ventura Doesn't Plan to Vote in Nov.
The Ex-Wrestling star says: "If I vote for John Kerry, I'm going to have my taxes raised." However, he doesn't agree with Bush on social issues. Therefore, he's not going to vote. I just lost all respect for this guy; he would rather see people discriminated against and science take a back seat to religion than have his taxes raised...which BTW, Kerry has not said he would do for anyone but the top 1%. So I'm guessing that Jesse could afford the increase. Voting matters people. It especially matters this year. Go out and vote Bush OUT!

This article explains the entire Philosophy of the Bush Campaign, which I would characterize as 'do whatever it takes to win'. Call me idealistic, but didn't we used to have campaigns that talked about the issues? I mean I understand that there is always going to be rhetoric from both camps, but this blatant untruth. In addition, whenever Kerry says something that Bush doesn't like, he is characterized as being anti-American, or 'giving comfort to the enemy'. Whatever happened to being allowed to have a differing opinion in America? Are we going back to the days of calling people Communists just for political gain?
